Maryada Ramanna - Review - movielist4u.com

After the movie Magadheera, the audiences looked forward for the film of Rajamouli with lots of expectations. However, he announced that he was going to do a film with Sunil as hero and the film would not have any kind of heavy dose of action or violence but he was trying to show the other side of Seema culture, where the people are very hospitable and respect the guests with utmost honour. Surprisingly, Rajamouli, who so far handled powerful action entertainers, showed his prowess in delivering an excellent flick with perfect situational comedy.
Buzz up!Raghava Rao marries Ramineedu’s (Nagineedu) sister. However, the families differ on a point and factional feuds run between them. Raghava Rao comes to know that Ramineedu’s brother Ankineedu has returned from jail and to avenge his vengeance, Raghava Rao attacks him. Both Raghava Rao and Ankineedu die in the clash. Raghava Rao’s wife takes away his son Ramu (Sunil) to Hyderabad and brings him up there. After 28 years, Ramu returns to the village to sell away his five-acre land. During his journey to the village, Ramu comes across Aparna (Saloni) and they become good friends. The innocent Ramu goes straight to the house of Ramineedu. The latter, with all kinds of hospitality towards guests, invites him and offers lunch. However, Ramineedu’s elder son Malla Suri (Supreet) reveals that Ramu is none other than Raghava Rao’s son. As Ramineedu’s family follows a tradition not to shed blood in their house, Ramineedu and his two sons await an opportunity for Ramu’s stepping out of house. However, Ramu comes to know that they are planning to kill him soon. What kind of tricks he plays will form the interesting part of the movie.

PLUS: The ebullient performance of Sunil has made the film worth watching. Sunil has not only showed perfect comedy timing, but also showed good ease in dances and in delivering excellent performance all through the film. The storyline is very simple and delicate. The director has penned perfect screenplay to run the entire drama and he has not lost grip anywhere on the subject or scenes. But for the fantastic screenplay, the film would have been a big flop. Another highlight of the film is the superb music by MM Keeravani. Though there are just three songs, the music has created a wonder in the film. Generally in Rajamouli’s films, the audio gets a positive response only after the release of the film. However, this film has got a massive response from the audiences even before the release of the movie. Re-recording was also very good in the movie and after a long time, Manisharma won the appreciation for his music in this film. Another highlight of the film is the perfect camera work by Ramprasad. He is able to manage the graphics to suit the running of the film without any hiccups and the audiences can not find the difference between a graphic and regular shooting.

MINUS: There are very few and minor lapses in the film and they are very negligible as a director could use cinematic liberty in such scenes. A hero speeding away on a bicycle when the villain chases him on a van looks absurd. Likewise, the coconut episode also appears a little funny. The first half of the film runs a little smoothly, the second half has some bumps. The hero hanging in the mid air cuddling a telephone poll and such scenes are quite unbelievable. The family members inside the house ignoring the commotion outside, who were waiting to kill Ramu, also looks a little embarrassing. The dialogues lacked punch but are just okay. But, director Rajamouli is able to convince the audiences with his gripping screenplay and the audiences never feel boredom all through the film.

ANALYSIS: The audiences should watch the film as if they are watching a comedian playing a hero and nothing more. No high expectations should be kept in mind as the film is from the director of a blockbuster like Magadheera. Watch the film with a plain heart and cool mind and the film would never disappoint you. Surprisingly, Saloni has given a good performance.
