Interview With Sruthi Hasan

We all know Kamal’s talents and his contributions to the film industry. Now, it’s a chance for his daughter Sruthi Haasan to make the same impact. She got introduced as heroine through ‘Luck’ in Hindi followed by an assignment in Telugu as music director through ‘Eenadu’. She spared some time to chat with the media personnel and the excerpts are:

How did you get the opportunity in ‘Eenadu’?

One day my dad came and asked me if I can compose the music for his film. But then I thought he was joking. Later when Chakri asked me once again, then I realized that they are serious. From that moment I took it as my responsibility and proceeded with that.

Are you trained in music?

Yes. I am attracted to music since childhood but got an opportunity to get professional training only when I was 14. I learnt Hindustani as well as classical music and obtained degree in singing and also in music composition at California Musicians Institute. Having undergone these trainings now I am confident to face the world.

In this competitive world where we see atleast one music director making entry every day, what is so special about your music?

It is an out of the box thinking. This movie will not have any songs. You may come across some tunes during the course of the movie and the audio CD itself will give a feel of having seen the movie. This is infact first of its kind in India.

How was it facing the camera for the first time?

My first shot was in South Africa in which I had to share the screen with Imraan. Since we both practiced that scene several times before facing the camera I didn’t find any particular difficulty in facing the camera

What kind of homework did you do for the role you played in ‘Luck’?

Since there were few action scenes involving me too, I had to take special care in my food habits and do regular excercises. I consider this as my homework.

Acting in ‘Luck’, music in ‘Eenadu’, which one influences you more?

Acting and music are my passion right from my childhood. They both are challenging for me. Hence I am also confident that I will become successful in both. I love my profession and I am enjoying it thoroughly.

Still, if you want to choose one among them as your profession which one will you select?

Why should I, when I like both. As I said before I am pretty confident of my contribution in both.

Kamal is a known personality in the industry and you have a stamp. What are your efforts to have your own image?

I’ve been trying to get my own identity right from my childhood. I am blessed to get a father like him because he raised us by giving complete freedom and he never forced anything on us. I am sure we will grow to those heights with his blessings.

When do you intend to enter Southern film industry as an actress?

If an interesting script is offered I would certainly love to grab it.

What is a good script according to you?

The characters should give strenght to the story and the same should remain forever in the minds of the people. This I feel is a good script.

Are you learning Telugu now?

Yes. Gautami is teaching me Telugu. I am also watching all her Telugu films and trying to learn as much as possible.

As a sister do you extend your guidance and advice to your sister Akshara?

No. We are brought up as individual personalities without any dependence. Akshara is a very independent girl and so is our youngest Subbalakshmi.

So, what about love and marriage?

As of now nothing. There is a long way to go.

What’s the ambition in your life?

To be happy and lead a peaceful life. My responsibilities may change due to different roles I’ve to play in life. Ultimately it is question of being happy.
