15-day holiday for colleges to prevent T-stir
In an unusual move, the state government on Thursday declared a holiday for all educational institutions, barring schools and medical colleges in Telangana region for a period of 15 days.
The government apparently is of the view that if the holidays are declared, students of junior, degree and engineering colleges who are now actively participating in the Telangana agitation would go back to their villages and enjoy the holidays. This would bring down the heat in the Telangana movement and the colleges could be resumed once the movement subsides, the government felt.
One does not know who gave this silly idea to the government, but it would only worsen the situation. The students’ organisations declared that they would make full use of the holidays to step up the Telangana agitation. It would give an opportunity for them to build up the movement in their villages and all over the Telangana, they vowed.
