Design Considerations for Solar Energy using Harvesting Wireless Embedded Systems

Abstract: The application space for wireless sensor networks is dominated by the longevity constraint, since the cost of physically deploying the sensor nodes often outweighs the cost of the nodes themselves. Energy is the limiting factor in achieving extreme (months to years) system wide lifetime. Fortunately, a promising technique to forestall this network energy crisis is emerging – environmental energy harvesting. Exploiting energy sources ubiquitous to the operating space of the sensor nodes raises the possibility of infinite lifetime. Achieving this (through harvesting aware design) represents a new frontier in the natural progression of energy optimization techniques, which started from low power design, evolved into power aware design, and recently, battery aware design.

Embedded Systems : A New Revolutionary System To Detect Human Beings Buried Under Earthquake Rubble

Abstract: “Thousands of persons killed as a cause of earthquake”. The above words aren’t the headlines of the newspaper but daily news everyone come across whenever we go through a newspaper or watching over a TV news.

A person’s life is precious and meaningful to his loved ones.

We, as responsible Engineers felt a part of society to bring a system to avoid these mishaps. With the meteoric Embedded systems along with microprocessor our designed system in preventing deaths and providing safe guided measures.

A new revolutionary microwave life detection system, which is used to locate human beings buried under earthquake rubble, has been designed. This system operating at certain frequency can remotely detect the breathing and heartbeat signals of human beings buried under earthquake rubble. By proper processing of these signals, the status of the person under trap can be easily judged. The entire process takes place within a few seconds as the system is controlled by a microprocessor (8085) or microcontroller unit.

By advent of this system the world death rate may decrease to greater extent as large percentage of death occur due to earthquake.

We welcome and wish you to a safe journey of this paper.

e-Wallet – the future of cards

Abstract:Using the basic concepts of Embedded Systems, an idea for changing the future of Cards (Banking, Petro, Health, Televoice, etc.) is proposed in this paper. Requirement of a special card reader, limited lifetime, acceptance being the main disadvantages of today’s traditional cards, led to the design of e-Wallet. The main objective of e-Wallet is to make paperless money transaction easier

Myopathis Detector and Hospital Information System

Abstract: The wrist watch pulse monitor is a device, which can be worn around the wrist to monitor the pulse rates and alert us in case of any abnormality in the operation of heart. It basically uses a sensor and a micro controller. The sensor senses the pulse rate and the micro controller displays the pulse rate and indicates when the pulse rate is abnormal. In addition to this the wrist watch is provided with an identification code which gives the patient details like age, address etc., this helps in providing the right kind if treatment for the patient .This saves precious time incase of emergency. As the ideal pulse rate varies with age and is different when you exercise, the device has a mode select option where you can select between normal and exercise mode. Also there are various age ranges from which you can set the device to suit your own age.

Fuzzy Logic in Embedded Systems

Abstract:

A digitally - programmable analogue Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is presented. Input and output signals are processed in the analog domain whereas the parameters of the controller are stored in a built-in digital memory. Some new functional blocks have been designed whereas others were improved towards the optimization of the power consumption, the speed and the
Modularity while keeping a reasonable accuracy, as it is needed in several analogue signal processing applications. A nine-rules, two-inputs and one-output prototype was fabricated and successfully tested using a standard CMOS 2.4? Technology, showing good agreement with the expected performances, namely: from 2.22 to 5.26 Mflips (Mega fuzzy logic inferences per second) at the pin terminals (@CL=13pF), 933-µW power consumption per rule (@Vdd=5V) and 5 bits of resolution. Since the circuit is intended for a subsystem embedded in an application chip (@CL ≤5pF) up to 8 Mflips may be expected.

Embedded Systems : Automation Of Cars

Abstract: The technical Brilliance and Developments in different fields has led to a drastic change especially in the communication field. Devices with intelligence rule the world. Imbibing intelligence to these devices is through a system called “EMBEDDED SYSTEMS”. It is the evolution or further development of the computing system. Its applications provide marvelous opportunities for ingenious use of computer technology. Almost every new system introduced is an example of Embedded System. These systems are more intelligent and autonomous.

Embedded Systems are combinations of hardware and software that are mounted on compact electronic circuit boards integrated into devices. They are engineered or intended to perform one specific function in a specific environment. An important decision in the design of an embedded system is the selection of the processor(s) around which the rest of the system is to be built. It is a chip that contains a microprocessor, some memory & I/O interface circuitry useful in embedded applications and is often called an ‘EMBEDDED PROCESSOR’ or ‘MICRO CONTROLLER’ chips as they perform important control functions, and are based on micro controller. The current topic “Automation of car” that we are going to present is one of the fine examples of Embedded System.

Face Detection System using Linear Discriminant Analysis

Abstract: Face detection is a two-class problem. Given an image, we would like to confidently say whether a face is present in it. The face detection procedure involves preprocessing of the image followed by detection. Preprocessing involves histogram equalization to improve the quality of the image. The preprocessed image is scanned to detect the edges; finally the edge-detected area is given as input to LDA classifier, which returns the location of the face, if present. The LDA classifier is trained on the whole face image. The input to the classifier would be the x and y co-ordinates of a window and the window is moved until the entire image is traced. The classifier returns an output measure, which is compared with the stored measure of image in the database, and the appropriateness is checked. The same procedure is repeated for different resolution levels and thus the face is detected.
