Embedded Systems : Automation Of Cars

Abstract: The technical Brilliance and Developments in different fields has led to a drastic change especially in the communication field. Devices with intelligence rule the world. Imbibing intelligence to these devices is through a system called “EMBEDDED SYSTEMS”. It is the evolution or further development of the computing system. Its applications provide marvelous opportunities for ingenious use of computer technology. Almost every new system introduced is an example of Embedded System. These systems are more intelligent and autonomous.

Embedded Systems are combinations of hardware and software that are mounted on compact electronic circuit boards integrated into devices. They are engineered or intended to perform one specific function in a specific environment. An important decision in the design of an embedded system is the selection of the processor(s) around which the rest of the system is to be built. It is a chip that contains a microprocessor, some memory & I/O interface circuitry useful in embedded applications and is often called an ‘EMBEDDED PROCESSOR’ or ‘MICRO CONTROLLER’ chips as they perform important control functions, and are based on micro controller. The current topic “Automation of car” that we are going to present is one of the fine examples of Embedded System.

Fuzzy Controlled Anti-Lock Braking System

Abstract: This thesis describes an intelligent approach to control an Antilock Braking System (ABS) employing a fuzzy controller. Stopping a car in a hurry on a slippery road can be very challenging. Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) take a lot of the challenge out of this sometimes nerve-wracking event. In fact, on slippery surfaces, even professional drivers can't stop as quickly without ABS as an average driver can with ABS. Anti-lock Brake improves the controllability of vehicles in compare with brake systems lacking ABS. Fuzzy is a multi-valued logic developed to deal with imprecise or vague data. Classical logic holds that everything can be expressed in binary terms: 0 or 1; in terms of Boolean algebra, everything is in one set or another but not in both. Fuzzy logic allows for partial membership in a set, values between 0 and 1. When the approximate reasoning of fuzzy logic is used with an expert system, logical inferences can be drawn from imprecise relationships.

Fuzzy anti-lock Braking systems were developed to reduce skidding and maintain steering control when brakes are used in an emergency situation. Fuzzy controllers are potential candidates for the control of non-linear, time variant and complicated systems. There are many control algorithms for ABS systems and they are partially responsible for their performance. Here, in this paper we have discussed how Anti-Lock Braking system is controlled using Fuzzy Logic.

Intelligent Load Shedding (ILS) System For Large Industries And Application Of TCBR In Damping Power Oscillations

Abstract: This paper presents an intelligent, automated load shedding system. This paper stresses on the need to implement intelligent load shedding system as it is advantegous over other existing load shedding system which lack system operating knowledge and are still best-guess methods which typically result an excessive or insufficient load shedding.

The architecture of Intelligent Load Shedding(ILS) system is explained along with a case study. This paper also suggests the use of Thyristor Controlled Breaking Resistor(TCBR) along with Fault Current Limiter(FCL) to enhance transient stability following a major disturbance in power system, the FCL operates for limiting of the fault current, enhancement of the transient stability and suppression of the turbine shaft torsional oscillation and then the TCBR operates with the objectives of fast control of generator disturbances. The effectiveness of both devices has been proved by simulations results.

Micromachines

Abstract:This paper presents the brief introduction of MEMS technology as well as its application area. Micromachined Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), also called Microfabricated Systems (MS), have evoked great interest in the cientific and engineering communities. This is primarily due to several substantive advantages that MEMS offer: orders of magnitude smaller size, better performance than other solutions, possibilities for batch fabrication and cost-effective integration with electronics, etc. It is available in the file which you can download from the link below.
