Virtual Reality

Abstract: Virtual Reality (VR) is presently a hot, up to date topic in the field of computer science. Virtual reality can be defined as “a computer system, which is used to create an artificial world with an ability to navigate through that world and manipulate objects in that world.” The two types of VR are immersive VR and non immersive VR. The most commonly used concepts for developing 3D worlds are Rendering and Programming .we can also involve in the VR using some hardware components like head mounted display (HMD), Cave automatic virtual environment (CAVE). The virtual reality system create full color 3 dimensional images, track the user’s body movements and changes the image instantly as the user interacts and moves through the virtual world. Some of them are window on world (WOW), immersive systems and telepresence. The VR concept is used in many applications like in scientific, education, and training fields. In the nearby future virtual reality will become better cheaper, and more accessible. Virtual reality is a very powerful user interface technology and can become a blessing to the world if used to its potential.

Virtual Reality

Abstract: We’ve all played on Playstations and seen queer yet enticing music videos which thrill us to our bones, but ‘almost’ never wondered what the keyword was that intrigued the ones who created them – “How?”
Necessity is the mother of all inventions.
This statement is true to the core in every sphere and this sphere of “Virtual Reality” is no different in proving its definite proof. Beyond the fascination, the excitement and pushing of the technological limits, the most important view of perception is the one which analyses these impeccable actions and dissects it down and gives a if-not-extensive-but-intensive view of the field.
People are often clouded/limited by the thinking that Virutal Reality has a fixed domain, and that domain is called “Gaming”. Stepping aside and promulgating the fact that it has a wide usability ranging from combat training for your nation’s defence or medicine or product manufacture, its not only essential, but vital to make its usage more widespread.
But, as we know that with the good comes the bad, “Virual Reality”, like any other homo-sapien created ‘venture’, has its own downsides as well be it drifting away from reality into our own dreamy space or just plain damage to your retina by endless hours of screen viewing.
Technological challenges fascinate those who dare to dream and step out of the conventional methodology of problem solving and visualizing dreams in a totally different dimension altogether.
This is what “Virtual Reality” is all about, and its here, to stay.

Virtual Reality : Second Life

Abstract: Our innovations have given us the power to transform our environment. Technologies have made this possible—from the simplest wooden plough to the most advanced personal computers. Throughout the journey of shaping the world, our technology went a long way in transforming our lives only physically but have you heard of a promising technology which brings about physical as well as mental transformations?. With the recent breakthrough in information technology, virtual reality has made it possible.

Virtual reality is stimulating the user’s senses in such a way that a computer generated world is experienced as real. The computer presents the stimulating 3-D environment which creates sense of presence and deeply engaged by providing the interface using display devices like Head-Mounted Display (HMD), Binocular Omni-Orientation Monitor (BOOM), &Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE).The participant interacts with computer generated 3-D world through input devices like Data Gloves, Joysticks, Hand-Held Wands, & Body Sensors. Virtual world gives mental support to people with disabilities, cancer, AIDS, strokes, depression and other ailments, there by giving them second life. Its other applications include simulation of surgical incision, Virtual Prototyping, & Information Visualization. Thus, virtual reality brings the imagination as close and realistic as reality itself.

In short, virtual reality is the simulation of another world, the world in which the user can see through his own eyes, the world in which a user can experience his desires, aspirations virtually and do it really, and the world which can be rightly called as his second life.

Virtual Reality

Abstract: Virtual reality (VR) is a technology, which allows a user to interact with a computer-simulated environment, be it a real or imagined one. Most current virtual reality environments are primarily visual experiences, displayed either on a computer screen or through special or stereoscopic displays. . The majority of near-term applications are in the area of surgical planning, interpretive navigation, and surgical simulations. Its use in rehabilitative medicine and psychiatry has made significant progress.
The paper describes several new visualization and interaction techniques that enable the use of virtual environments for routine medical, military as well as industrial purposes. A new volume-rendering method supports shaded and transparent visualization of medical image sequences in real-time with an interactive threshold definition. Virtual Reality (VR) appears a natural medium for three-dimensional computer supported collaborative work (CSCW). However the current trend in CSCW is to adapt the computer interface to work with the user's traditional tools, rather than separating the user from the real world as does immersive VR. The combination of the presented techniques empowers the improved human-machine interface of virtual reality to support every interactive task in medical three-dimensional (3-D) image processing, from visualization of unsegmented data volumes up to the simulation of surgical procedures.

BLUE-C

Abstract:

Virtual Reality (VR) is presently a hot, up to date topic. In the past decade, VR systems were not so realistic, but as computers become more powerful, more realistic Virtual Reality worlds are designed. This paper presents an overview of an upcoming, a new generation virtual reality system, so called “blue-C”, systems.

Auto Stereoscopic Virtual Reality

Abstract: Auto stereoscopic displays enable unencumbered immersive virtual reality, but at a significant computational expense. This expense impacts the feasibility of auto stereo displays in high-performance real-time interactive applications. A new autostereorendering algorithm named Autostereo Combiner addresses this problem using the programmable vertex and fragment pipelines of modern graphics processing units (GPUs).

Vision Based Sensing

Abstract:This paper discusses the solution to the measurement problem by a vision system using photogrammatic image processing to determine the motion of objects in real time. Performance characteristics are presented. The control problem is addressed by a new technique dealing effectively with the challenge posed by the noncollocated sensor/actuator configuration on the flexible robot structure. The laboratory implementation of the measurement and control concepts is discussed. Preliminary results validate the concepts
